The faculty of chemical engineering department are involved in applied research as well as
fundamental research. Many of them serve as consultants to industries in India. They have
collaborations with industries near Chennai and all over India. Some industries with which
interactions exist formally through projects are Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited,
Engineers India Limited, Gas Authority of India Limited, Madras Fertilisers
Limited.
A significant portion of the faculty are retained as consultant by industry. Here they
serve as advisors to industry on a long term basis. Their inputs enables the industry to
operate profitably and stay ahead of the competition. They also contribute to assisting
the industry with their expansion and diversification plans.
Faculty are also involved in specific projects of interest to industry. Here they carry
out experiments in collaboration with the R&D of industry to develop new technology or get
a good understanding of existing processes or technology, with a view to making
improvements. The mathematical and analytical expertise of the faculty allows them to
propose models of existing systems. This is used to understand the processes occurring in
a plant.
This allows us to suggest alternatives in operating conditions to increase the
operational efficiency of a process. It also allows us to understand anomalous behavior in
a system and suggest suitable control strategies for the process. The faculty of the department
possesses expertise in a wide spectrum of areas. We are proud that we have the ability to
solve any problem faced by industry. They interact with each other for a synergistic
combination of their expertise to solve problems of industrial relevance. Industries
