Research Activity in the Department

The faculty of the department of chemical engineering are actively involved in research. The research work is at both a fundamental level as well as at the applied level. In the former we seek answers to questions to generate information that enables us to understand fundamentally various aspects of a problem. In the latter we try to solve problems of immediate and social relevance.

Financial support for the research programmes of a fundamental nature is obtained from sponsoring agencies like Department of Science and Technology, Department of Atomic Energy, Ministry of Human Resources and Development. Projects of an applied nature are funded by industries in India. Here we work on problems of interest and importance to the sponsoring industry. These projects are carried out either in a purely industrial consultancy mode when the work involves routine application or development . It is carried out in a research based industrial consultancy mode when there is a component of the project where some fundamental research is involved where new information has to be generated which is not available in the literature. International collaborations with institutes like the Max Planck Institute and other Universities has also resulted in financial support for projects involving fundamental research.
