The summer training programme was included in 2001 as an integral part of the B.Tech
curriculum. Here the students at the end of the third year(after six semesters) undergo
training in an industry for six to eight weeks. This is treated as a course of two
credits.
On completion of the training they submit a detailed technical report to the indutry as
well as IIT Madras. The objective of this training
is to impart practical training by exposing the students to various operations in modern
industry. The rigorous courses our students undergo gives them a comprehensive
understanding of the fundamentals of chemical engineering. We recommend that our students
be involved in a mini project which can be decided by the industry during their stay
there. Some examples of these projects are
i) evaluating energy efficiency of processes/plant
ii)studying material balance across units to determine sources of any losses.
The period of summer training is usually from May15th -July 15th every year. In specific
cases a period greater than eight weeks can be considered. We would prefer a stipend be
given to our students durign the course of the training. This will enable them to take
care of their expenses during their stay. Any assistance you can provide towards making
arrangements for accommodation or canteen facilities will be highly appreciated. This will
enable them to settle comfortably during their stay there. Industries who are interested
in collaborating through this programme should contant office@che.iitm.ac.in
